Join us every April for the Bill Yarlott Annual Fishing Derby! Our fishing derby has been taking place since 1996. That’s a whole lot of years and kids growing up and fishing in Cascade Lake! The derby is a celebration of the beginning of fishing season and a rite of passage for our kids. One year we had over 30 kids come out in the typical cool shades of spring. The largest fish caught was almost 19 inches!
The event began thanks to Bill Yarlott, a fishing enthusiast who was instrumental in keeping Cascade Lake stocked with fish like Kokanee, rainbow trout and bass.
Each year we are fortunate enough to have the hard work and passion behind breakfast and measuring fish, thanks to Amy and Phillip Miller. Everyone enjoys Philip’s good morning humor, hard work and hot pancakes!
The event is co-sponsored with Orcas Outfitters in Eastsound and Kings Marine in Friday Harbor, who both generously donated prizes for the event. Friends of Moran is honored to have their support and participation for so many years. Come join us for breakfast and the thrill of catching your first big fish! Everyone goes home with a prize.
